Waymo Dallas Avis Depot & Active Operations Field Report
Key Waymo Dallas Avis Depot & Active Operations Field Report Findings
Waymo and Avis are constructing a major permanent operations hub in an industrial area of Dallas, located less than five miles from Dallas Love Field Airport. The site features approximately 10 Alpitronic HYC-400 fast chargers equipped with four handles each, providing roughly 40 DC fast charging points beneath dedicated vehicle canopies. Infrastructure upgrades include electrical switchgear, transformer pads, two security guard shacks, vehicle entrance ramps around the building, and premium paver driveways.
At its active operational depot, Waymo relies on temporary DC fast chargers mounted on skids. These chargers are powered off-grid by Aggreko generators undergoing active maintenance, rather than a direct grid connection.
Waymo currently runs its commercial 24/7 driverless ride-hailing service using Jaguar I-PACE vehicles. Additionally, about a dozen next-generation Ojai vehicles are stationed on-site undergoing active fleet testing.

Waymo / Avis Future Depot Construction
The under-construction Waymo and Avis Budget Group depot is a high-investment facility located in an industrial zone under five miles from Dallas Love Field Airport. Site progress reveals approximately 10 Alpitronic HYC-400 units installed under protective car canopies, creating around 40 DC fast charging points.
Heavy electrical switchgear and transformer pads are in place. Demonstrating a high capital investment, the property utilizes paved driveways instead of standard asphalt or concrete. Access and perimeter security include multiple vehicle entrance ramps and two security guard shacks.
Waymo’s Active Depot Operations & Fleet Mix
At Waymo’s current active Dallas depot, vehicles are cleaned, maintained, and charged. Power is delivered via temporary DC fast chargers on skids hooked up to Aggreko generators rather than a permanent grid tie. The depot houses both the commercial Jaguar I-PACE fleet servicing local riders and approximately a dozen Ojai vehicles.
Waymo Rider Experience
Waymo’s Jaguar I-PACE features a 360-degree sensor perimeter consisting of top-dome LiDAR, body LiDARs, cameras, and radar. The roof dome displays the passenger’s initials via LiDAR for easy identification upon pickup. Inside, riders start the trip using the rear touchscreen. The cabin features dual displays for climate control, navigation tracking, vehicle info, media integration via Spotify or YouTube Music, USB-C charging ports, and a direct support button.
Waymo Outlook
With continuous 24/7 driverless operations established in Dallas, Waymo’s shift from temporary generator-powered skids to permanent, heavy-duty charging infrastructure at the Avis Future Depot highlights its scaling strategy for commercial autonomous ride-hailing in North Texas.
